Portugal came from ahead to beat Norway 2–1 in Oslo on Sunday, handing Erling Haaland and Martin Ødegaard a difficult night in the UEFA Nations League.

The result ended Norway’s perfect start to the competition after their opening 3–2 victory over Denmark. Portugal, meanwhile, made it two wins from two matches and continued their strong start to the campaign.

Portugal took the lead through João Félix in the first half, putting Norway under pressure as the hosts looked for a response.

Norway found their answer shortly after the break.

Haaland scored in the 51st minute to bring Norway level and give the home supporters renewed hope. The Manchester City striker continued his impressive international scoring form after scoring twice against Denmark in Norway’s opening match.

However, Norway’s comeback lasted only a few minutes.

Gonçalo Ramos restored Portugal’s advantage in the 54th minute after a costly mistake by Norwegian goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland. Ramos took advantage of the opportunity and gave Portugal a lead they would not surrender.

Norway pushed forward in search of another equaliser, with Haaland remaining a constant threat in the final third. The hosts created opportunities during the second half but were unable to find a second goal.

Portugal goalkeeper Diogo Costa also played an important role in protecting the visitors’ lead. He made several saves as Norway increased the pressure, helping Portugal hold on for all three points.

For Ødegaard, the match was another demanding test as Norway’s captain. The Arsenal midfielder helped lead the team through a difficult contest, but Portugal’s defensive organisation made it difficult for Norway to turn their possession into another goal.

The defeat leaves Norway with three points from their opening two Nations League matches, while Portugal move forward with a perfect record after victories over Wales and Norway.

Haaland will nevertheless take confidence from another international goal. After his two-goal performance against Denmark, his strike against Portugal keeps him among the main attacking figures of Norway’s campaign.

Norway will now look to recover from the defeat and return to winning ways in their next Nations League fixture.

For Portugal, the 2–1 victory represents another important step in their title defence.

In Oslo, Haaland found the net again, but Portugal ultimately had the final word.
